Charity Super.Mkt, the UK’s first multi-charity pre-loved fashion store, has extended its pop-up at Quayside MediaCity in Salford after experiencing "huge demand".

Originally running from 2 November to 13 December, the pop-up will now stay open until 28 January 2024.

Charity Super.Mkt

Founded by fashion designer Wayne Hemingway and Maria Chenoweth, CEO of TRAID, Charity Super.Mkt first appeared in London in January 2023, and has since taken pop-up residences across the UK.

From the "most vibrant of vintage clothing, to the best of band tees, forgotten football tops, desirable denim, and everything in between", the concept offers a curated collection of the most appealing second-hand apparel, with in-store DJs at the weekends.

Its current pop-up at Quayside MediaCity has sold more than 6,500 items raising £52,000 for charity, with proceeds going to Age UK, All Aboard, Emmaus, Havens Hospices, Together Trust, and St Vincent de Paul.

What’s more, the pop-up’s success has also ensured that that nearly two tonnes of clothing have been saved from the landfill, as well as saving more than 16,000 kilograms of CO2 emissions.

Wayne Hemingway MBE, Co-founder of Charity Super.Mkt, said: "The response to the first Charity Super.Mkt in the north has been phenomenal.

"We’re taking similar revenues to mainstream retailers which is a clear indication that there is a big change in the world, charity clothes have real appeal and people are buying with purpose in mind.

"We’d like to keep encouraging everyone to bring down their unwanted items so that we can keep raising vital funds for the charities involved."

Stephen Wild, Managing Director of MediaCity, added: "As well as the incredible success of Charity Super.Mkt, what’s been even more encouraging has been the store’s ability to draw younger crowds to Quayside MediaCity. We’re really pleased to have Charity Super.Mkt extend its stay until the end of January.”
