Sustainably and ethically conscious online womenswear and maternity wear brands Baukjen and Isabella Oliver are winners of the 2021 UN Global Climate Action Awards under the category 'Climate Neutral Now'.

The awards aim to shine the light on innovative, scalable, and replicable examples of how to combat climate change. House of Baukjen, the collective of both Baukjen and Isabella Oliver, has been recognised by the UN as carbon negative circular leaders in the fashion industry because of efforts to adopt a circular business model with a zero-waste approach.

House of Baukjen is a London based, family-run business that puts people and the planet at the heart of everything that they do. Home to two clothing brands for women at different but meaningful times in their lives; Baukjen and Isabella Oliver for during pregnancy. A certified B Corp and amongst others; The Fashion Pact and UN Fashion Charter signatory, they focus on environmentally, ethically and socially conscious style for a sustainable future.

House of Baukjen's sustainability efforts include offering sustainable and responsible fibres and fabrics to re-commerce initiatives, offering customers the ability to rent items and recycling customers clothes for them.

As of 2020, House of Baukjen also became carbon negative across its entire supply chain and continues to work collaboratively with suppliers to help them become more sustainable, tackling inefficiencies, and switching to 100% renewable energy.

House of Baukjen is the first ever business in the fashion industry to win this recognition in the 10 years since the inception of the UN Global Climate Action awards.

UN Climate Change Executive Secretary Patricia Espinosa said “The winners of the 2021 UN Global Climate Action Awards provide tangible proof that solutions to tackle the climate crisis exist and that they can be replicated and quickly scaled up. This is what inspiring leadership looks like.”

Founder and CEO of House of Baukjen, Geoff Van Sonsbeeck and Creative Director Baukjen De Swaan Arons, said: “We are so proud to have won this incredible award and to be recognised as an industry leader in sustainability. We use our business as a force for good and want to encourage other companies to follow our lead and take action to combat climate change together. The recognition belongs to the company; to our team and manufacturers who have worked so hard to analyse and reduce emissions at every stage of operations.”
