Under Armour has signed up-and-coming Barcelona midfielder Fermín López to wear its products, joining the sportswear brand’s growing roster of professional footballers.

This includes the likes of Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah, Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall, Real Madrid’s Antonio Rüdiger and AC Milan’s Malick Thiaw, who have all been signed by Under Armour in recent months.

López, 20, who only made his first team debut in August 2023 after impressing for the Spanish La Liga giants’ reserves, will now play in Under Armour's ‘Shadow Elite 2’ boots, "designed for players who need speed and agility in their game".

Off the pitch, López will wear Under Armour’s latest performance and sports style products in what is seen as the brand "increasing its relevance in the Spanish market" as it continues to grow in EMEA.

On signing with Under Armour, López said: "It’s inspiring to be joining such an impressive athlete roster. Under Armour recognises that i'm at a very exciting time in my career. It will help me take my game to the next level."

Barcelona must think highly of López, as two days after he made his first team debut he signed a new contract at the club – tying him down until 30 June 2027 - with a buyout clause of €400 million.

Under Armour’s signing of López is the latest example of its commitment to young team sports athletes.

The brand’s UA Next Programme, a free and open-to-all ecosystem for 16-20 year-old team sport athletes, "designed to identify, train and develop tomorrow's young athletes and sports leaders", launched in the UK this year.

Additionally, Under Armour opened its first-ever outlet store in London in December 2023, on the lower level at Outlet Shopping at The O2 – next to anchor stores and fellow sportswear retailers including Adidas, Nike and New Balance.
