Zara to launch Augmented Reality app

14 March 2018

Zara is set to launch an AR app in a bid to lure tech-savvy millennials into its stores.

The global fashion retail giant's app will enable shoppers to see walking (and in some cases talking) models wearing clothes when they hold the app up to designated store windows or to sensors in-store. Customers can then click through to buy the product.

It will also allow customers to view alternative items on models when they hold the app over the packaging of their online deliveries. The initiative will be rolled out to 120 stores worldwide from 18 April.

Today Zara parent Inditex revealed that its sales were up 9% in 2017 at €25.34bn and said that online sales had leapt by 41% during the year. The business has been investing heavily in integrating its online operations with its retail stores.

It is currently operating a pop-up store in London's Westfield Stratford mall, which is dedicated to online ordering and collections. The pop-up is in place until its refurbished hi-tech flagship store opens this spring, which will include a dedicated area for online ordering and collections.
