Zalando's newest private brand Zign collection is fully dedicated to sustainability

Zalando announced Thursday that its latest private label Zign collection is its most sustainable brand yet. The announcement comes in conjunction with the online giant's commitment  to generate 20% of its gross merchandise value (GMV) through more sustainable products by 2023.

As of today, all new products created by Zign collection will either contain 50% more sustainable materials, or a minimum of 20% recycled content. In addition, all products featured in the new collection are manufactured in the top 50% of its supply base when it comes to social performance. Zalando will also require factories to submit environmental data to the Higg Index to help track and improve areas such as greenhouse gas emissions, water use and waste.

The business' Do.More strategy said it is "fully dedicated to sustainability”, providing customers with  “a broader sustainable assortment to choose from”  as well as “clearer signposting with an improved tagging system known as the sustainability flag”.

VP Category Women at Zalando, Sara Diez said “We are very excited to launch ZIGN’s first ever collection that is fully committed to sustainability and with this extend our more sustainable assortment by over 800 new pieces. ZIGN is our own sustainable flagship label and further supports Zalando’s do.MORE strategy, focusing on quality and durability while fulfilling our sustainability criteria. With this commitment, we support our customers in making more sustainable choices while acting as a role model for other brands on our platform.”

Zalando has continued with its sustainability push, recently the online retailer launched an exclusive collection called "Small Steps. Big Impact". A new “timeless” capsule womenswear collection in collaboration with nine Nordic brands. The collection features 70 pieces, using a variety of sustainable fabrics including 100% recycled polyester, durable triacetate, organic cotton, and Oeko-Tex certified prints.

The online giant has been taking a series of actions in order to offer customers an array of sustainable fashion options. At present, the fashion giant offers 20,000 products titled sustainable from over 240 different fashion labels.
