Zalando pushes sustainability commitment with “Small Steps. Big Impact” collection

Zalando has continued with its sustainability push by launching an exclusive, new “timeless” capsule womenswear collection in collaboration with nine Nordic brands.

From today the capsule collection will be available in all of the online retail giant’s 17 markets, including the UK.

The “Small Steps. Big Impact. By Zalando” line has been designed to offer timeless pieces that can been worn repeatedly as the inspiration behind the collection is designed to create a “personal style to last multiple seasons”.

It feature pieces from the Nordic brands, Blanche, Bruuns Bazaar, Designers Remix, Filippa K, Han Kjøbenhavn, Holzweiler, House of Dagmar, Libertine Libertine and Won Hundred.

Lena-Sophie Roeper, Head of Buying Premium and Sports at Zalando, said: “Sustainability is an increasingly important topic in all our categories, especially in premium. We know, our premium customers demand products that are not only of high quality and fashionable design but also have sustainability benefits.”

“As a platform with more than 29 million active customers in 17 countries and more than 2,000 brands, we know that we can influence the demand for and the supply of sustainable fashion. The collection is a huge step in the right direction.”

The collection features 70 pieces, using a variety of sustainable fabrics including 100% recycled polyester, durable triacetate, organic cotton, and Oeko-Tex certified prints.

It also incorporates less resource-concentrated processing techniques such as saving water and using less pesticides. The collection has a mix and match concept and is available in soft colour tones in a range of styles including t-shirts, fluid dresses, tailored suits, strong denim and jackets.

Highlights of this capsule collection include a layered jacket using 100% recycled polyester created by Han Kjøbenhavn. The Holzweiler’s unique hoodie has also been redesigned using 100% BCI Cotton with House of Dagmar, creating a skirt using rom GOTS certified organic cotton.

The launch of this new collection is part of Zalando’s bid to offer customers an array of sustainable fashion options. At present, the fashion giant offers 20,000 products titled sustainable from over 240 different fashion labels. This move comes hand in hand with Zalando’s recent sustainable fashion campaign “Do.More” launched in October 2019.

Jonny Ng, Director of Marketing Strategy and Campaigns at Zalando, said: “This collaboration continues Zalando’s sustainability goals by responding to the changing needs of our customers.”

“The collection aims to increase customers’ awareness of Zalando’s sustainable fashion assortment, while guiding customers towards more conscious choices. By working together with these nine premium brands we want to demonstrate how easy it is for our customers to find sustainable style from head-to-toe.”
