Yoox's responsible fashion award winner launches plant-based down alternative capsule
Vogue YOOX Challenge winner, material science company Saltyco have launched a sustainable capsule collection with Yoox's private label, 8 by YOOX.
The capsule collection features Saltyco's innovative Biopuff material, a plant-based fiberfill material, that's grown in wetlands through regenerative agriculture and alternative water sources, avoiding the need for irrigation with fresh water and reducing its consumption in the textile sector.
The BioPuff padding is designed to trap heat and ensure excellent insulating properties, comparable to those of goose down. In addition to being lightweight and water repellent, the biodegradable fiber is easily compostable.
The capsule offerings include a unisex Biopuff blue oversize quilted jacket, matching quilted trousers, bucket hat, an oversized padded tote bag, and a shirt.
Founded in 2020 by four graduates from Imperial College London and the Royal College of Art, Saltyco's "planet-positive" textiles aims to provide a sustainable textile option and preserve freshwater, which only accounts for 3% of the total amount of water on the planet.
The company's main goals are to create entirely new supply chains in the fashion industry by rethinking all steps in the production of clothing from farming to manufacturing and to preserve freshwaters by using saltwater instead.
