Yoox Net-A-Porter has launched a new research project to enhance development of artificial intelligence-based technologies designed to transform the e-tail experience. Features will include tools such as visual search and virtual try-on.

The luxury group has partnered up with academics at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia in Italy to explore the “potential of technology in support of humanity in an innovative way."

The research will begin by focusing on visual search and virtual fitting tech and YNAP will also be using large amounts of data collected over the past two decades, including tens of millions of images as part of the research.

YNAP aims to create “cutting-edge technological solutions” to help personalise the online shopping experience.

The luxury division has a history of investing in high technology to boost shopper experience. YNAP already has a virtual styling tool on its app and has also developed a customisable avatar for its users to see how products will look before placing an order.
