Yards Store to open at The Royal Exchange Manchester

Premium menswear fashion retailer Yards Store is to open a new 800 sq ft store on Old Bank Street in The Royal Exchange Manchester this weekend.

The store will sell a variety of “heritage brands with provenance combined with outdoor brands,” including Filson, Carhartt, Pendleton, Saucony, Karhu, Sunspel, Paramo and Haglofs.

Yards Store previously had a store in Macclesfield, which was closed when an opportunity to relocate to Manchester arose. The new store is set to complement its online store, and authenticate its positioning with a strong real bricks and mortar presence.

Tim Gardiner, director of Heritage Apparel Limited and co-owner of Yards Store, says: “We chose this location for a number of reasons. The classic building that is the Royal Exchange is steeped in Manchester’s architectural history and reflects the image that we wish to portray for Yards Store.

“We already operate the Fjallraven store next door, so it made absolute sense in practical terms for us to operate side by side. By locating the only bricks and mortar Yards Store within the Royal Exchange buildings, we believe this helps to promote our premium casual branded positioning and is the perfect home for our portfolio of brands.

“At a time when the high street is proving to be challenging, we want to create an independent feel for the store and a destination for people who want trusted, authentic brands with a twist of some new ones.”

Emme Haycock, asset manager for Hines UK, adds: “Since our involvement in 2016, Hines have been pushing to make The Royal Exchange a prestigious location in Manchester’s retail landscape and have targeted premium high street brands and best in class independents.

“As we enter the busy festive period, we’re pleased that top retail brands like Yards Store are choosing to make The Royal Exchange their home, along with Watches of Switzerland, Lululemon, Molton Brown and many other retail talents.”
