British menswear brand Universal Works has launched a collaboration collection with K-Way, the French brand best known for its packable windbreaker jacket, just in time for the British festival season – and notoriously unpredictable weather.

Under the working title of ‘Festival Kit’, the K-Way x Universal Works collection features two jackets and a bag, each available in British khaki and French navy.

Every item is constructed from a recycled version of K-Way’s house fabric. The result is a lightweight and waterproof recycled ripstop. On each piece, K-Way’s instantly recognisable logo, in all its tricolour glory, sits alongside Universal Works’ ‘UW’ insignia.

The ‘Watergate Bay Jacket’ is a feature-packed update on the classic windbreaker style, featuring heat-taped seams, two-way zip, adjustable hem, three outer pockets, a rear vent, and, naturally, it’s fully packable.

The ‘Porthmeor Jacket’ is a reimagining of Universal Works’ own ‘Photographer’s Jacket’, this time made in the recycled ripstop performance “wonder fabric”. All the details are what fans of the original jacket would expect, but K-Way has added heat-taped seams, the brand’s signature colour zip, a tab-and-snap detail on the chest, and even a tab inside the lower pocket to attach a tent, pegs, bottle opener or whatever else is on a festival check list.

Universal Works Co-Founder, David Keyte, said: “A raincoat that will keep you dry when you need it, but that you can take off and stow away when you don’t is a godsend for those seemingly endless hours spent waiting for the next band to come on the Pyramid Stage.

“It might be sunny with clear skies, but a sudden downpour is practically guaranteed, so it’s pieces like this that really make the whole festival experience that much more pleasant. But they’re also perfect for a city dweller like myself. When you’re rushing around, getting on and off public transport, it’s exactly what you need.”

The ‘Festival Bag’ sums up the spirit of the collection – “free of unnecessary detail, ultra-reliable and endlessly useful”, also handy to stash either of the jackets, a pair of shades, sun cream (just in case!) and a glow stick or two.
