{"id":211984,"date":"2022-07-11T07:00:50","date_gmt":"2022-07-11T06:00:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.theindustry.fashion\/?p=211984"},"modified":"2022-07-11T19:36:48","modified_gmt":"2022-07-11T18:36:48","slug":"post-office-workers-staging-24-hour-strike-in-pay-row","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theindustry.fashion\/post-office-workers-staging-24-hour-strike-in-pay-row\/","title":{"rendered":"Post Office workers staging 24-hour strike in pay row"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Post Office workers have launched a 24-hour strike over pay, with more industrial action due later this week.<\/strong><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Members of the Communication Workers Union (CWU) are on strike on today at Crown Post Offices - the larger branches which are usually sited on high streets.<\/p>\n<p>Supply chain and administrative workers will strike on Thursday, which the union said will affect sub-post offices.<\/p>\n<p>The CWU said it opposed Post Office management\u2019s offer of a 3% pay rise for the 2022-23 financial year, alongside a one-off lump sum payment of \u00a3500, and no pay increase for the 2021-22 financial year, which it complained was well below the rate of inflation.<\/p>\n<p>CWU assistant secretary Andy Furey said: \u201cThe blame for this disruption lies entirely with the senior Post Office leadership, who have repeatedly failed \u2013 and wilfully refused \u2013 to set out a sensible and fair pay agreement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEveryone knows that the only solution is a fair pay rise that properly rewards members for their extraordinary efforts in serving the public and delivering a profitable Post Office, while also taking account of the extreme cost of living.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere most certainly is money available, but management do not want to give workers their fair share. Our message to the employer today is: don\u2019t waste our members\u2019 time by misleading statements. Stop the spin and get serious about pay. Until you do this, the strikes will continue.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A Post Office spokesperson said: \u201cWe can confirm that 57, which is half, of our Directly Managed Branches have opened today.
