{"id":209378,"date":"2022-06-07T10:44:58","date_gmt":"2022-06-07T09:44:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.theindustry.fashion\/?p=209378"},"modified":"2022-06-07T19:25:25","modified_gmt":"2022-06-07T18:25:25","slug":"ganni-partners-with-bolt-threads-to-go-virgin-leather-free-by-2023","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theindustry.fashion\/ganni-partners-with-bolt-threads-to-go-virgin-leather-free-by-2023\/","title":{"rendered":"Ganni to go virgin leather-free by 2023"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Scandinavian fashion brand <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theindustry.fashion\/the_directory\/ganni\/\">Ganni<\/a><\/span> has partnered with Bolt Threads to help end its reliance on virgin animal leather by 2023.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Ganni is the latest fashion brand to partner with Bolt Threads, <strong> which creates spider silk and leather alternative materials, <\/strong>following in the footsteps of <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theindustry.fashion\/the_directory\/lululemon-athletica\/\">Lululemon<\/a><\/span>, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theindustry.fashion\/the_directory\/adidas\/\">Adidas<\/a><\/span> and <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theindustry.fashion\/the_directory\/stella-mccartney\/\">Stella McCartney<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>The Copenhagen-based brand has previously collaborated with VEGEA, who use a plant-based material partially derived from grape skins during winemaking for a range of shoes.<\/p>\n<p>Bolt Thread's Mylo fabric is created from mycelium, the root structure of mushrooms, and imitates the \"desirable qualities of leather without the planetary impact associated with raising livestock,\" according to the company.<\/p>\n<p>In comparison to the year it takes to raise a cow, mycelium takes less than two weeks to grow, Both Thread claims, and it is also harvested in a state-of-the-art vertical farming facility powered by 100% renewable energy.<\/p>\n<p>Dan Widmaier, CEO &amp; Founder of Bolt Threads said: \u201cOur goal with Mylo is to give designers, brands, and customers a choice for an animal-free alternative to traditional leather that doesn\u2019t sacrifice on quality or aesthetics.
