{"id":186030,"date":"2021-11-10T11:08:40","date_gmt":"2021-11-10T11:08:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.theindustry.fashion\/?p=186030"},"modified":"2021-11-10T13:43:00","modified_gmt":"2021-11-10T13:43:00","slug":"natalia-vodianovas-venture-masuku-launches-biodegradable-single-wear-mask","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theindustry.fashion\/natalia-vodianovas-venture-masuku-launches-biodegradable-single-wear-mask\/","title":{"rendered":"Masuku launches biodegradable single-wear mask"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Top model Natalia Vodianova\u2019s brand Masuku has launched a biodegradable single-wear face mask that decomposes into its bio-based materials in months rather than the average 450 years of plastic alternatives.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Recent estimates show that globally we dispose of three million face masks every minute, taking hundreds of years to decompose while leaving behind microplastics that cause pollution and ecological disruption.<\/p>\n<p>The newly launched <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/masuku.com\/collections\/masuku-daily-face-masks\">Masuku Daily<\/a> single-wear mask is made entirely from degradable cellulosic materials, a proprietary bio-based nanofibre filtration fabric<\/strong> <strong>that can be consumed by bacteria.<\/strong> In ideal conditions it can compost in water, earth, a plant pot, as well as household food waste in a few months.<\/p>\n<p>Following three years of development, the Masuku Daily is produced in the AirLab factory in Rotherham, England.<\/p>\n<p>Masuku, which translates to the Japanese word for mask, was launched by top model and philanthropist Natalia Vodianova and sustainable transformation design and technology company Pentatonic.<\/p>\n<p>Natalia Vodianova said: \u201cThe environmental impact of the pandemic is devastating and the long-lasting implications are still not understood. Whilst it will always be essential for some professions to wear single use masks, many don\u2019t realise that they can take up to 450 years to decompose.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe decided to develop Masuku Daily masks to provide the same level of protection as our Masuku One High Performance masks for those for whom a single use mask is essential. Made of compostable materials it\u2019s a perfect choice for you and the planet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Daily mask comes in two styles<\/strong>. Available now, the Surgical mask has FFP1 standard.
