{"id":166660,"date":"2020-06-16T21:03:00","date_gmt":"2020-06-16T21:03:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.theindustry.fashion\/emma-watson-joins-the-board-of-kering\/"},"modified":"2021-08-06T12:06:11","modified_gmt":"2021-08-06T12:06:11","slug":"emma-watson-joins-the-board-of-kering","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theindustry.fashion\/emma-watson-joins-the-board-of-kering\/","title":{"rendered":"Emma Watson joins the board of Kering"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>British actor and activist Emma Watson is <strong>among a new raft of appointments<\/strong> to the board of luxury conglomerate and parent of Gucci and Saint Laurent, Kering.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Watson's <strong>appointment as Chair of the Sustainability Committee of the Board of Directors,<\/strong> was announced at the Paris-based group's AGM today.<\/p>\n<p>Also joining the board is<strong> Tidjane Thiam, a former CEO of Credit Suisse Group<\/strong> and the recently appointed African Union Special Envoy on COVID-19, who was named\u00a0Chair of the Audit Committee.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_144850\" style=\"width: 810px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-144850\" class=\"size-full wp-image-144850\" src=\"https:\/\/www.theindustry.fashion\/wp-content\/uploads\/Tidjane-Thiam-bis.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-144850\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tidjane Thiam<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The third appointment to the board was that of<strong> Jean Liu the President of multi-modal mobile transportation platform Didi Chuxing.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Fran\u00e7ois-Henri Pinault, Chairman and CEO of Kering, commented:\u00a0\u201cI am delighted to welcome Jean Liu, Tidjane Thiam and Emma Watson to our Board of Directors. Their respective knowledge and competences, and the multiplicity of their backgrounds and perspectives will be <strong>invaluable additions to Kering\u2019s Board of Directors. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\"The <strong>collective intelligence that comes from diverse points of view<\/strong> and the richness of different experiences are crucial to the future of our organization. I am proud to add such impressive talents to the team.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_144851\" style=\"width: 834px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-144851\" class=\"size-full wp-image-144851\" src=\"https:\/\/www.theindustry.fashion\/wp-content\/uploads\/Jean-Liu-bis.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"824\" height=\"550\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-144851\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jean Liu<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Watson, who <strong>first came to public prominence playing Hermione Grainger in the Harry Potter film franchise<\/strong>, is a prominent voice on issues such as gender equality and sustainability.<\/p>\n<p>She holds a degree in English Literature from Brown University and in 2014, she was <strong>appointed a UN WOMEN Global Goodwill Ambassador<\/strong> and launched the HeForShe initiative aimed at involving men in the promotion of gender equality.<\/p>\n<p>In 2016, she<strong> created Our Shared Shelf, a feminist book club<\/strong> and\u00a0is part of the TIME'S UP Entertainment Steering Committee having brought the movement to the UK, coordinating its launch at the UK Film BAFTAs in 2018 and building a network of hundreds of women from across the industry.<\/p>\n<p>Her consultation with the women\u2019s movement led to the establishment of a new UK Justice and Equality Fund, hosted by Rosa and launched by Watson with a \u00a31million donation.
