Global online giant, Zalando has announced it has become the very first platform worldwide to pledge science-based targets (SBTs) to reduce carbon emissions<\/strong> according to the 1.5 degrees Celsius Paris Agreement figure.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n For Zalando, this means by 2020, 80% of the carbon emissions from its own operations and 40% from private label production will be removed<\/strong>. The e-tailer said it wants to \u201cpositively impact the entire value chain\u201d and has also promised to \u201chaving 90% of key partners set SBTs.\"<\/p>\n The online giant has shown a continuous commitment to becoming increasingly sustainable as last week the e-tailer confirmed it will be the first retailer signed up to the Sustainable Apparel Coalition to\u00a0use a new module that will make sustainability assessments mandatory<\/strong>\u00a0for its labels and partner brands sold on the platform.<\/p>\n Zalando has said that its new sustainable targets \u201chas the potential to affect a large share of the fashion industry and the majority of Zalando\u2019s partners.\"<\/p>\n Director of Sustainability at Zalando, Kate Heiny said<\/strong>: \u201cHaving our science-based targets approved is an important milestone for our sustainability strategy. We believe there is a clear link between sustainability and continued commercial success in selling fashion online.\"<\/p>\n \u201cThe global coronavirus situation has shown us how flexible and fast the economy can be when change is needed, and this should be used as a blueprint when it comes to sustainability. Now is the time for a clear sustainability strategy and ambitious goals.
