In addition, the day also marked the first time cases of Covid-19 exceeded 100 in the UK.<\/p>\n<p>Since Sunday 1 March there has been <strong>a slight increase of 0.2 percent year-on-year<\/strong>, which Ipsos explained this as the potential result of <strong>consumers hitting the shops to stockpile<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Director of Retail Intelligence at Ipsos Retail Performance, Tim Denison<\/strong>, said in a statement: \u201cIt isn\u2019t a surprise that footfall has taken a big hit since the outbreak of Coronavirus really ramped up a notch last week.\"<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShoppers will likely be wary of stepping into stores knowing that they might be exposed to a harmful virus \u2013 <strong>a sharp decline of -12.7 percent year-on-year shows how habits are shifting<\/strong>. We are almost at the same level of decline in footfall from the outbreak that we saw last month when the storms caused such disruption.\"<\/p>\n<p>Denison advised shoppers continue to practice \u201cvigilant\u201d personal hygiene as recommended by the NHS and refrain from \u201cpanic buying\u201d which places increasing amounts of unnecessary strain on retailers.<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cIt will be interesting to see how the retail landscape progresses as the pandemic continues, and we can hope for the retailer\u2019s sake that the future starts to look brighter very quickly.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":50,"featured_media":137595,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_exactmetrics_skip_tracking":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_active":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_note":"","_exactmetrics_sitenote_category":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[16042,6,10494],"tags":[5202,5707,15614,15615],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v21.7 -
