{"id":165715,"date":"2020-03-02T16:25:00","date_gmt":"2020-03-02T16:25:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.theindustry.fashion\/comedian-joe-lycett-changes-name-to-hugo-boss-in-protest-against-the-fashion-company\/"},"modified":"2021-08-06T12:04:51","modified_gmt":"2021-08-06T12:04:51","slug":"comedian-joe-lycett-changes-name-to-hugo-boss-in-protest-against-the-fashion-company","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theindustry.fashion\/comedian-joe-lycett-changes-name-to-hugo-boss-in-protest-against-the-fashion-company\/","title":{"rendered":"Comedian Joe Lycett changes name to HUGO BOSS in protest against the fashion company"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"story-body__introduction\">Comedian Joe Lycett has <strong>legally changed his name to Hugo Boss<\/strong>, in a protest against the fashion house for allegedly <strong>targeting small businesses and charities who use the word \u201cboss\u201d<\/strong> in their names.<\/p>\n<p>The comedian made the announcement on Twitter after <strong>calling out the luxury company for costing small businesses<\/strong>, including\u00a0Swansea brewery company Boss Brewing, \u201cthousands in legal fees and rebranding\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The name change will be explored in a new episode of his Channel 4 show, <em>Joe Lycett\u2019s Got Your Back<\/em>, in which he \u201cfights for the rights of the Great British consumer\u201d.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">It&#39;s clear that <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HUGOBOSS?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@HUGOBOSS<\/a> HATES people using their name. Unfortunately for them this week I legally changed my name by deed poll and I am now officially known as Hugo Boss. All future statements from me are not from Joe Lycett but from Hugo Boss. Enjoy. (2\/2) <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/IlDoCrfmaO\">pic.twitter.com\/IlDoCrfmaO<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Joe Lycett (@joelycett) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/joelycett\/status\/1234134537984266240?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 1, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Boss, formally Lycett, came to the defence of small business Boss Brewing company, after they were forced to to shell out nearly \u00a310,000 defending itself in a legal battle against a clothing giant in a row over its name.<\/p>\n<p>The multi-award winning brewery applied to own the trademark of its name in Spring 2019, a procedure which should usually cost \u00a3300.<\/p>\n<p>After a four-month legal battle, <strong>the company ended up paying almost \u00a310,000 in solicitors' fees<\/strong> by the time it was all resolved.<\/p>\n<p>The verdict resulted in the award-winning beer company being <strong>forced to change its name, with the additional stipulation that they cannot sell clothing anymore<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The brewing company have since applauded Boss, formally known as Lycett, for his actions and raising awareness to the issues small company's face from giants like HUGO BOSS.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">So it\u2019s official!! <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/joelycett?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@joelycett<\/a> (we mean Hugo) has only gone and done it!
