Sustainable second-hand online charity clothing marketplace Thrift+ has announced it has reached the milestone of one million pounds raised for charity, only four years after launch.

Founder Joe Metcalfe had the vision to provide a completely hassle-free and transparent marketplace to resell second-hand clothing and power the circular fashion economy.

As a leading second-hand retailer with a website and app, Thrift+ makes it easier for consumers to re-sell clothing items than discard. The business processes over 30,000 items of clothing every month and has up to 100,000 items available on their website at any given time.

The business grew 8 times over in 2020 compared to 2019, with a sharp increase in sales from April 2020 when lockdown catalysed wardrobe clearouts and an increase in community spirit.

Sellers simply need to order a bioplastic, reusable ThriftBag, fill it up, and return it for free. A team of experts will then sift through and photograph clothing before each item is priced and listed.

With a list of 12,000 charities, sellers can choose who gets a donation when the items sell. As an item sells, the seller donates 50% of their profit, with the option to donate the remaining 50% to their selected charity or convert it into spendable credits on Thrift+.

Thrift+ has supported a diverse range of purposeful organisations with differing missions, including Give Well, Cancer Research UK, British Heart Foundation, Terrence Higgins Trust, Refuge, WWF, and Alzheimer's Society.

Thrift+ also partners directly with brands including French Connection, FARFETCH, and Hush, to implement a customer takeback scheme.
