{"id":164510,"date":"2021-03-31T20:01:18","date_gmt":"2021-03-31T20:01:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.theindustry.fashion\/soho-photography-quarter-to-kickstart-150m-investment-in-oxford-street-transformation\/"},"modified":"2021-08-06T12:10:49","modified_gmt":"2021-08-06T12:10:49","slug":"soho-photography-quarter-to-kickstart-150m-investment-in-oxford-street-transformation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theindustry.fashion\/soho-photography-quarter-to-kickstart-150m-investment-in-oxford-street-transformation\/","title":{"rendered":"Soho Photography Quarter to kickstart \u00a3150m investment in Oxford Street transformation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Work has begun on the Soho Photography Quarter, <strong>the first permanent part of Westminster City Council\u2019s \u00a3150m reinvention of Oxford Street<\/strong> and the surrounding area.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The project will see <strong>Ramillies Street, Ramillies Place, Hills Place and a small section of Great Marlborough Street<\/strong> transformed into a \"Gateway to Soho\" and a cultural attraction in its own right.<\/p>\n<p>The Soho Photography Quarter will reflect the wider vision for the district by making the area more inviting,<strong> enhancing access for pedestrians and cyclists,<\/strong> improving safety and air quality, and boosting the cultural offer.<\/p>\n<p>Drawing upon the legacy of Soho as a vibrant cultural hub, the Quarter will act as <strong>an open-air gallery space for the public with an annual programme of light projections<\/strong> and large-scale art lining the streets, introducing \u201ca sense of vibrancy and spectacle to the area.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_167738\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theindustry.fashion\/wp-content\/uploads\/20210305_Hills-Place.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-167738\" class=\"size-full wp-image-167738\" src=\"https:\/\/www.theindustry.fashion\/wp-content\/uploads\/20210305_Hills-Place.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-167738\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Hills Place<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Additional seating, \u201cgreening\u201d and a<strong> multi-layered public arts programme will encourage people to enjoy the area<\/strong> and its unique character. It reimagines the nation\u2019s favourite high street through the following themes; \u2018greener\u2019, \u2018smarter\u2019, \u2018future\u2019 and \u2018together\u2019 to create a globally competitive centre for innovative retail, commercial activities, culture and living.<\/p>\n<p>Recognised worldwide as a leading shopping and cultural destination and <strong>attracting around 200 million visitors in a \"normal\" year,<\/strong> Westminster City Council is leading a coalition of partners to reinvent the area and deliver further improvement projects.<\/p>\n<p>From the outset, the plan is focused on a strong economic recovery and adaptation -
