{"id":164035,"date":"2021-02-01T15:24:00","date_gmt":"2021-02-01T15:24:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.theindustry.fashion\/simon-carter-to-open-new-flagship-store-in-connaught-village\/"},"modified":"2021-08-06T12:10:07","modified_gmt":"2021-08-06T12:10:07","slug":"simon-carter-to-open-new-flagship-store-in-connaught-village","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theindustry.fashion\/simon-carter-to-open-new-flagship-store-in-connaught-village\/","title":{"rendered":"Simon Carter to open new flagship store in Connaught Village"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>British menswear brand Simon Carter will be opening a <strong>new 650sq ft flagship store in Hyde Park Estate's luxury retail quarter,\u00a0Connaught Village,<\/strong> \u201cas soon as permitted,\u201d adding to another new store it opened just before Christmas in Chiswick, west London.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>It will mean the brand now has five stores in varying pockets of London, the other locations being in <strong>Mayfair, Blackheath and Crystal Palace.<\/strong> Another Simon Carter store, on Lamb\u2019s Conduit Street, was closed last year due to expiry of the lease.<\/p>\n<p>Simon Carter, founder and CEO of Simon Carter, said: <strong>\u201cI\u2019ve been using the time to prune and edit my business and future proof for when the bounce back comes.<\/strong> I\u2019ve taken on new shops in Chiswick and Connaught Village as there were very good deals to be had that certainly won\u2019t be there in a year\u2019s time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI see opportunity presently as<strong> landlords are being much more realistic and keen to do deals.<\/strong> Although central London, and city centres generally, have been hollowed out by coronavirus, we are experiencing an era of \u2018hyperlocalisation\u2019, as I\u2019ve termed it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMillions of us are living, working, and spending from home and <strong>creating a prosperity ripple in suburbs and regions that are becoming virtuous circles.<\/strong> I\u2019ve always favoured these \u2018villages\u2019 and have seen a 20% increase in sales at my Crystal Palace shop, for instance, during the months it could open. We\u2019ve also invested in online, and that\u2019s trading 26% up so all is relatively positive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Carter has signed five-year leases on both new stores, located at 2B Devonshire Road, Chiswick, and 50 Connaught Street in Connaught Village.<strong> The unveiling of the Chiswick store just prior to Christmas was low key,<\/strong> but Carter says that although so far it has only been able to open for a total of 10 days due to Lockdown 3, it had the best opening week of any shop he\u2019s ever opened.<\/p>\n<p>Carter commented: \u201cI\u2019ve always wanted a Chiswick shop but the High Road is too expensive. It\u2019s an area I personally like shopping and spending in so that\u2019s a good sign. It had just been renovated and was let as a pop-up so in perfect condition and good to go. I took possession on a Wednesday afternoon and opened that Saturday morning.<strong> It was only open 10 days but exceeded expectations in all areas.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cBeing slightly off pitch in Chiswick means the rent is much more affordable and the reaction has been exactly what I\u2019d like, with <strong>a real sense of being \u2018embraced\u2019 by the local community.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Connaught Street will open as soon as permitted and will allow Carter to showcase the brand \u201cfully for the first time,\u201d in a larger than usual 650sq ft space.<\/p>\n<p>Carter added: \u201cMy brand is akin to joining a club and there is a sense of the slow burn with my shops. <strong>Connaught Village feels like Shepherd Market in Mayfair did 12 years ago<\/strong> when I moved there - a wealthy hidden London village.
