The UK is forecast to set a new spending record of \u00a31.437bn this Singles\u2019 Day, up 11.8% on 2019<\/strong> despite a national lockdown, according to a new report.<\/p>\n

The UK\u2019s awareness of Singles\u2019 Day continues to grow, with 19.7% of the population familiar with the discounting event - 19% more than last year<\/p>\n

Originating in China in the 1990\u2019s, Singles\u2019 Day is celebrated annually on 11th November, and was initially created as an occasion for single people<\/strong> to buy themselves gifts.<\/p>\n

In recent years, Singles\u2019 Day has become an increasingly global event, with Chinese corporation Alibaba marketing it as a mass discounting event. In 2019, Alibaba sold $38.4bn\u2019s worth of goods on Singles\u2019 Day alone.<\/p>\n

The Shopping for Christmas 2020 report, commissioned by VoucherCodes.co.uk, reveals that online sales are set to make up 92.8% of total UK sales this Singles\u2019 Day (\u00a31.33bn)<\/strong>, as consumers take advantage of online offers during lockdown.<\/p>\n

Retailers predicted to take part in Singles\u2019 Day by offering online promotions include ASOS<\/a>, Boohoo<\/a>, Oasis<\/a>, Warehouse<\/a>, Pretty Little Thing<\/a>, Nasty Gal<\/a>, Karen Millen<\/a>, Look Fantastic, Deliveroo and Superdrug.<\/p>\n
