{"id":163034,"date":"2020-02-11T09:53:12","date_gmt":"2020-02-11T09:53:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.theindustry.fashion\/matchesfashion-appoints-amazon-vp-as-its-new-ceo\/"},"modified":"2021-08-12T14:06:51","modified_gmt":"2021-08-12T14:06:51","slug":"matchesfashion-appoints-amazon-vp-as-its-new-ceo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theindustry.fashion\/matchesfashion-appoints-amazon-vp-as-its-new-ceo\/","title":{"rendered":"MATCHESFASHION appoints Amazon VP as its new CEO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MATCHESFASHION, the multichannel luxury retailer, has <strong>appointed Ajay Kavan as CEO.<\/strong> Currently vice president international special projects at Amazon, he will join the London-based business on 19 March.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>During his time at Amazon, Kavan <strong>led several initiatives to improve the Amazon customer experience globally.<\/strong> In addition to driving core Amazon businesses like UK and EU Consumables, Kavan led the development of several global strategic initiatives, launched businesses like Amazon Fresh in the EU and Japan, and built key strategic partnerships including with Morrisons in the UK.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>His career in retail spans 25 years and<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>has <strong>helped build multi-channel businesses in the UK and Asia.<\/strong> He is also<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>Deputy Chairman of In Kind Direct, a charity founded by the Prince of Wales, and has been on its board since 2012.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">Kavan replaced\u00a0Ulric Jerome who<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theindustry.fashion\/matchesfashion-com-ceo-ulric-jerome-departs\/\"> left Matchesfashion.com last August<\/a> having been with the\u00a0business for six years, four of which as CEO.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_135448\" style=\"width: 621px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-135448\" class=\" wp-image-135448\" src=\"https:\/\/www.theindustry.fashion\/wp-content\/uploads\/Ajay-Kavan-CEO-MATCHESFASHION-colour-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"611\" height=\"917\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-135448\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ajay Kavan<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cI am thrilled to be joining this very exciting and digitally innovative luxury lifestyle brand. Apax and the MATCHESFASHION team are looking forward to working with Ajay over the coming years and benefiting from his strategic insights and considerable experience.\u201d<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>MATCHESDFASHION began life as a single store in Wimbledon 30 years ago and grew to become a global force in luxury fashion with stores in upscale London neighbourhoods, a global website and an interactive personal shopping and event space at 5 Carlos Place in Mayfair.
