{"id":162347,"date":"2019-10-14T11:04:40","date_gmt":"2019-10-14T11:04:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.theindustry.fashion\/nike-to-cease-supplying-independents\/"},"modified":"2021-08-12T14:04:48","modified_gmt":"2021-08-12T14:04:48","slug":"nike-to-cease-supplying-independents","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theindustry.fashion\/nike-to-cease-supplying-independents\/","title":{"rendered":"Nike to cease supplying independents"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>US sportswear giant Nike has dealt <strong>a \u201ckiller blow for small stores\u201d<\/strong> by ceasing to supply them, according to a report.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The report in<em> The Sunday Times<\/em> claims that Nike has \u201c<strong>thrown the future of dozens of independent retailers into doubt<\/strong> by terminating their supply agreements\u201d, as the brand seeks to take greater control of its distribution by 2021 \u2013 in a bid to boost profits and send customers to its own website and stores.<\/p>\n<p>In a letter seen by The Sunday Times, Nike has apparently notified the independents that<strong> availability to stock its products would end in two years,<\/strong> stating that their way of stocking its goods was \u201cno longer aligned\u201d with Nike\u2019s distribution strategy.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Sunday Times<\/em> also states that <strong>retailers are fearful that Adidas will follow suit<\/strong>, as \u201cthe two brands dominate the industry and between them raked in about \u00a350bn of sales worldwide last year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Small retailers that have built their businesses on the two powerhouse sports brands risk being killed off, though other sports brands will no doubt see it as <strong>an opportunity to attempt fill the void<\/strong> left in the wholesale market.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":39,"featured_media":151492,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_exactmetrics_skip_tracking":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_active":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_note":"","_exactmetrics_sitenote_category":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[6,10494],"tags":[6158,9875,5978,10288,9952],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v21.7 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>Nike to cease supplying independents - TheIndustry.fashion<\/title>\n<meta name=\"description\" content=\"US sportswear giant Nike has dealt a \u201ckiller blow for small stores\u201d by ceasing to supply them, according to a report.
