Last month, fast-fashion retailer Boohoo reversed its decision<\/a> to ban the sale of products containing wool. The decision came after a backlash from the public and farmers and lead the group to issue a statement stating they would only use wool coming from good husbandry that meets high levels of animal welfare.<\/p>\nAccording to Peta, wool is one of the most environmentally damaging materials and sheep are often subjected to shocking and systemic cruelty. Today, it was announced that PETA US has become a shareholder in the company. This will enable it to attend the annual general meeting held later this year, speak to other shareholders and executives and call for the retailer to commit to banning wool. The move is part of PETA's campaign urging the global retailer to stand by its original decision to ban wool.<\/p>\n
Yvonne Taylor, PETA Director of Corporate Projects, said: \u201cIt's time Boohoo Group proved that it's a real leader in global retail by standing by its compassionate initial decision to ban wool.<\/p>\n
