{"id":160889,"date":"2019-01-28T17:24:09","date_gmt":"2019-01-28T17:24:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.theindustry.fashion\/sir-philip-green-ends-legal-fight-against-telegraph-over-harassment-allegations\/"},"modified":"2021-08-12T13:54:59","modified_gmt":"2021-08-12T13:54:59","slug":"sir-philip-green-ends-legal-fight-against-telegraph-over-harassment-allegations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theindustry.fashion\/sir-philip-green-ends-legal-fight-against-telegraph-over-harassment-allegations\/","title":{"rendered":"Sir Philip Green ends legal fight against Telegraph over harassment allegations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sir Philip Green and his business empire Arcadia have <strong>ended their legal claim against <em>The Daily Telegraph<\/em>,<\/strong> which reported allegations of sexual and racial harassment against him.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Court of Appeal judges temporarily barred the newspaper from identifying the Topshop tycoon or revealing \u201cconfidential information\u201d relating to allegations of misconduct made by five employees.<\/p>\n<p>But former Cabinet minister <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theindustry.fashion\/sir-philip-green-named-in-parliament-as-the-businessman-behind-british-metoo-scandal\/\">Lord Hain named Sir Philip in the House of Lords<\/a> two days after the court\u2019s ruling in October, resulting in the widespread reporting of the allegations.<\/p>\n<p>After having pursued legal action against<em> The Telegraph<\/em>, Arcadia said on Monday: \u201cAfter careful reflection, Arcadia and Sir Philip have therefore <strong>reluctantly concluded that it is pointless to continue with the litigation<\/strong> which has already been undermined by the deliberate and irresponsible actions of Lord Peter Hain, the paid consultant of the <em>Telegraph<\/em>\u2019s lawyers Gordon Dadds, and risks causing further distress to the Arcadia\u2019s employees.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cConsequently, Arcadia and Sir Philip will be <strong>seeking the court\u2019s permission to discontinue these proceedings<\/strong> on Monday.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, Arcadia accused the <em>Telegraph<\/em> of conducting a campaign to \u201cknowingly facilitate the breach\u201d of confidentiality agreements, exposing individuals who signed them and <strong>causing \u201cuntold disruption\u201d to 20,000 Arcadia staff.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe <em>Telegraph<\/em> has repeatedly contacted and harassed staff and former staff of Arcadia and BHS. <strong>Its reporters have doorstepped many individuals, often at night,<\/strong> causing distress and concern to their families, even as recently as last weekend,\u201d Arcadia said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cArcadia and Sir Philip want to protect those staff and former staff from further intrusive approaches.<strong> A complaint about this behaviour has been made to IPSO<\/strong> (the Independent Press Standards Organisation).\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lord Hain said the announcement amounted to \u201ca vindication of my parliamentary intervention\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201c<strong>I complied fully with parliamentary rules<\/strong> as my source was nobody in or connected with Gordon Dadds.
