Woolrich Outdoor Foundation launches with 1% for the Planet

Heritage US outdoor brand Woolrich has just launched the Woolrich Outdoor Foundation in partnership with 1% for the Planet.

The mission is to protect and preserve the outdoors for communities globally, “giving back to the people and planet that have inspired and helped to build the brand.”

Through 1% for the Planet, the international organisation whose members contribute at least 1% of their annual sales to environmental causes, Woolrich will now donate 1% of all direct-to-consumer, e-commerce, and full-price sales to impactful environmental projects. They run across the foundation's three core pillars: Urban space renewal, protecting forests and coastal maintenance.

The donation will consist of 50% cash and 50% comprised of product, volunteer hours, services, advertising and communications activities. The combined total of the Woolrich Outdoor Foundation's contributions to meaningful environmental projects is projected to be approximately $3m in its first three years.

Woolrich CEO, Stefano Saccone, said: “Giving back to the people and planet that inspired and helped build our brand is important to us and that's why we are contributing 1% of our direct-to-consumer sales to fund impactful environmental projects through a partnership with 1% for the Planet.

Working together we can donate, volunteer, and actively provide service to protect and shape a brighter and more sustainable future.”

Woolrich was established by John Rich in 1830 in Pennsylvania and is considered “part of the fabric of the American outdoors.”

After just two years of owning the Woolrich brand, W.P. Lavori of Italy sold its majority share of Woolrich International to L-GAM, an investment company based in Luxembourg, in 2018.
