NHS COVID-19 vaccination clinic opens in empty Westfield retail unit

Westfield Stratford has opened one of the UK's latest NHS COVID-19 vaccination clinics, operating from an empty retail unit on the edge of the shopping destination.

The Vaccination Centre is one of a network of vaccination centres across England that will deliver the COVID vaccine, with priority groups currently being offered jabs.

The NHS Trust confirmed Caroline Ogunsola, Professional Development Lead Nurse for Community Services, was the first staff member to have her COVID vaccine jab at the new Vaccination Centre at Westfield.

Caroline, delighted to be playing a small part in NHS history, commented: "I am pleased to have had my first jab and I want to encourage everyone, especially those from BAME communities to get it. There are many myths out there but you need to get the facts to be safe.

"Coronavirus has had a devastating impact on BAME communities - this is a way to stop COVID in its tracks, stop feeling fearful when we go outdoors or to work, and eventually to get back to some normality."

Westfield Stratford and Westfield London are currently operating for essential retail only.

Entry signage and barriers continue to be installed around the shopping destination, forming an important part of any re-opening plans when lockdown restrictions are relaxed.
