Weekday and Monki, the H&M fascias, have both signed for new stores in Sheffield's Heart of the City II £470m city centre scheme.

The Weekday store will be the brand's first outside of London while Monki's store will be its first in Yorkshire.

Both brands will be located on the ground floor of Grosvenor House – the new flagship office for HSBC – and will be opened in November in time for the Christmas trading period.

Jennie Dahlin Hansson, Managing Director of Monki, which H&M refers to as its "storytelling" brand, said of the move: “Sheffield is a city full of young, creative people and we can’t wait to open our first store there and share the full Monki experience.”

Weekday is H&M's denim-anchored youth brand; its managing director Daniel Herrmann added: “We have had great success in London and are now thrilled to be opening our first store in northern England, enabling more customers to experience our brand. Sheffield is the home to a vibrant creative scene, and we look forward to meeting this great community.”

Heart of The City II is an ambitious project for Sheffield City Council and is the largest ever development to take place in the city featuring new roads, public spaces and heritage alongside retail and residential properties. Monki and Weekday have signed for stores of 5,221 square feet and 8,379 square feet respectively.

Jocelyn Holmes, Senior Leasing Manager at Queensberry, said: “Monki and Weekday have really bought into the vision for the city centre and see it as the perfect location to expand their brands."

As well as the Sheffield store Weekday will also open a new 5,000 sq ft store on Shoreditch High Street and a 3,000 sq ft store on Soho’s Berwick Street later on this year, taking the total number of stores in the UK to five.
