If like me you are a fan of "Scandi-Cool" then the arrival of Scandinavian rainwear brand Norwegian Rain will be met with quite a bit of excitement. This brand has just opened its first stand-alone retail store outside Norway on London's Piccadilly and is set to bring forth a wave of exciting new and mid-century scandi-design.
This duo behind the brand are the personification of "cool" and have transformed what could be considered humble rainwear into a veritable art form.
Located underneath BAFTA House on Piccadilly, Norwegian Rain is well placed among London's sartorial and cultural neighborhoods of Saville Row, Jermyn Street and Old Bond Street, with Fortnum & Mason and the Royal Academy of Art a stone's throw away.
The store will sell both men's and women's collections. Among the suiting, shoes and leather goods from T- Michael is a curated selection of Scandinavian mid-century furniture by Modern Tribute. Norwegian Rain aims to hold numerous events in the coming months gearing towards its anticipated AW16 collaborations with Grenson shoes and Ally Capellino.
Norwegian Rain was established in Bergen, Norway, by business graduate Alexander Helle who wanted to create tailored rainwear with a sartorial elegance. Together with bespoke tailor T-Michael – a Ghanaian tailor who relocated to Bergen from London and set up his tailoring studio in the city nearly two decades ago – they created Norwegian Rain with other local creatives including graphic design studio GrandPeople and photographer Bent Rene Synnevåg. Combining form, function, practicality and style, the tailored rainwear garments conceal some of the highest level of weather protection available on the market. The high-tech is hidden.
