Vetements reissues debut collection with Style.com

Vetements has reissued its debut 2014 collection and it is being sold in an exclusive deal with Conde Nast's newly launched e-commerce platform Style.com.

Run by a design collective headed by Georgian designer Demna Gvsalia (who is also creative director at Balanciaga having succeeded Alexander Wang earlier this year), Vetements went on to achieve cult status after its launch for its elevated take on streetwear and it triggered the trend for reworked, stepped-hem denim.

Gvsalia, who prior to Vetements worked at Maison Margiela, is known for his disregard of convention, so this unusual move is true to style. The collection available on Style.com includes stepped-hem leather pants, a hoodie with over-long sleeves, a leather shirt, full-length mesh dress, leather jacket, leather mini and leather midi skirt among other items, most of which come in black.

The signature denim will arrive on the site in a second drop. Prices range from £295 for a body suit to £2,550 for the leather jacket.

"That first collection wasn’t available to many people," Gvasalia told Style.com, "so it’s great to ensure that it’s not lost in our archive. We are giving those clothes a second chance in a way. Because that collection really did do the job of making Vetements the brand it is today."

Style.com was unveiled at the start of September, having been in the works for around three years when the publishing house appointed Franck Zayan from French department store Galeries Lafayette to head up the project.

Its launch had been delayed (it was first slated for release at the end of last year) and when it did arrive the marketplace-model site faced criticism for having failed to secure enough big-brand designers. However initiatives such as this will only help it gain credibility.
