Pre-loved luxury fashion platform Vestiaire Collective has launched a Resale Buying Guide for SS25, described as a "comprehensive analysis of the second-hand landscape today".

Leveraging historical data and proprietary analytics, the guide identifies the brands, pieces and key trends driving the resale market for the season.

With economic shifts influencing consumer habits, the guide also explores why people are turning to second-hand as a smarter way to shop for the brands they love at a competitive price, and it aims to help customers "make the best choice for their wallet, as well as their wardrobe".

The inaugural Resale Buying Guide focuses on finding the best value for every budget, from top brands to buy to the hottest styles that sell fast.

Sophie Hersan, co-founder and Fashion Director of Vestiaire Collective, said: "This report highlights how resale is no longer a secondary option and is leading the way in how consumers experience and access luxury fashion today.

"Vestiaire Collective is at the forefront of that shift, offering not just sustainability but smarter, more conscious and more affordable ways to engage with style.

"Sustainability remains at the heart of what we do, and pre-loved fashion is also about accessibility, guiding our community on what to shop, discovering and making the best choices while holding value over time.

"Vestiaire Collective’s Resale Buying Guide provides data driven insights into what fashion means today, proving that vintage is no longer an alternative but a key part of our fashion journey."

In what it calls ‘Unveiling the Vestiaire Value Ranking’ (VVR), based on an analysis of over 400 brands Vestiaire Collective’s proprietary ranking rates the brands offering the best resale value, factoring in price accessibility, desirability and long-term worth.

In the luxury category, Chanel leads the ranking with the highest product views per user, followed by Louis Vuitton and Hermès. However, Gucci topped sales volume last quarter with 36,000 items sold on Vestiaire Collective, while Dior and Prada have both increased in value by 12% and 11%, respectively, over the past five years.

In the designer brands category, The Row leads as the fastest growing, boasting a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) in resale value of 27% thanks to the quiet luxury boom. It ranked in second place to Moncler, ahead of Brunello Cucinelli in third.

Vivienne Westwood has also seen a CAGR rise of 9%, riding the Y2K revival for its iconic corsets and pearl necklaces.

In the premium brands category, Polène came out on top for interest with the highest average of 43 ‘likes’ per product, followed by long-standing favourites Golden Goose and Ganni.

Cult brands and ‘fashion insider’ favourites are also gaining traction across the platform. Interestingly, the increase in brand resale value is closely following the first-hand market trends with a top six including The Row, Margiela, Miu Miu, Alaïa, Vivienne Westwood and Loewe.

Vintage pieces have also seen "exponential growth" Over the past five years, Vestiaire Collective has seen a 220% increase in vintage supply and an 80% rise in sales, "reflecting a growing demand for quality, rarity and timeless design".

In the ‘OG Icons’ category, Hermès ranks the highest with resale value increases for its ‘Birkin 25’ bag showing 40% CAGR, along with Bvlgari’s ‘Serpenti’ ring at 51%  Chanel’s ‘Timeless’ bag at 17%.

For ‘Smart Timeless Finds’, Louis Vuitton’s ‘Nano Speedy’ bag leads with a 58% CAGR, followed by Fendi’s ‘Mamma Baguette’ at 53% and Chanel’s ‘Chain Belt’ at 40%, "offering good options under £1,000".

In ‘Affordable Classics’, Vestiaire Collective’s under £500 edit, a vintage YSL blazer has seen 22% CAGR, a classic Burberry trench coat is 11% and a Hermès ‘Bandana 55’ scarf is 21%.

The fastest selling items in Europe are the Dior ‘Saddle’ bag, which took just one minute and 37 seconds to sell, followed by the Hermès ‘Lima’ ring, which sold in two minutes and 18 seconds. Meanwhile, The Row’s ‘Lambskin Coat’ was snapped up in three minutes and 43 seconds.

In terms of what is now trending on Vestiaire Collective, from sugary pastels to sculptural silhouettes this season’s top trends "reflect a community leaning into playful styling, nostalgic references and standout accessories".

Colours seeing the most searches now are ‘ballet slipper pink’, ‘butter yellow’, ‘ice blue’ and ‘mocha mousse’, with soft, wearable shades dominating outerwear, knits and accessories.

There’s also a silhouette shift towards 80s power suits, as well as Chloé’s bubble skirts, preppy Miu Miu-inspired layering, oversized bags and kitten heels.

Meanwhile, ‘barn jackets’ are trending across genders, keyring charms are "everywhere" and animal prints remain a resale favourite.
