Versace names Pieter Mulier as Chief Creative Officer
Pieter Mulier, who last week confirmed his departure as Creative Director of Alaïa, is set to join Versace, fulfilling widespread industry expectations.
He will succeed Dario Vitale, who stepped down shortly after Prada Group completed its acquisition of Versace from Capri Holdings.
Mulier’s appointment takes effect on 1 July, and he will report directly to Versace’s Executive Chairman, Lorenzo Bertelli.
Since his appointment at Alaïa in 2021, Mulier has stabilised the house and reaffirmed its signature focus on the female form.
Under his leadership, knitwear gained structure, leather achieved renewed fluidity, and body-conscious silhouettes were reasserted with contemporary restraint.
His influence extended beyond design, restoring commercial and cultural relevance to Alaïa in Paris while preserving the brand’s atelier-led ethos.
Before joining Alaïa, Mulier trained at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp and honed his craft at Maison Margiela, Hermès, and Prada.
He has long been linked to Versace, particularly following the Maison’s acquisition by Prada Group last year, having developed a close creative relationship with Prada co-Creative Director Raf Simons.
"When we considered the Versace acquisition, we identified Pieter Mulier as the right person for the brand," said Bertelli.
"We believe that he can truly unlock Versace’s full potential and that he will be able to engage in a fruitful dialogue with the brand’s strong legacy. We are excited to begin this journey together."
