Vans partners Discovery on collection to benefit Project CAT
Vans has joined forces with American television company Discovery, Inc., which operates Animal Planet and the Discovery Channel among others, on a line of footwear, apparel and accessories to benefit Project CAT, Discovery’s effort to join the mission to double the world’s wild tiger population.
Launching this month, to coincide with Global Tiger Day on 29 July, the hero style in the Vans x Project CAT collection is the "Comfy Cush Sk8-Hi", which features a print of two tigers on the quarter panel, evoking the majesty and wild spirit of the magnificent cats. The shoes black and white typographic laces read "Protect Tigers" and the style is not only available for adults and kids, but also for toddlers, featuring a zip-back detail.
A wild tiger also features on the Vans classic slip-on style, exclusively for kids and toddlers, with a fuzzy tiger design upper, complete with fuzzy ears, and "Protect Tiger" messaging across the heel counters.
The kids apparel offering includes a recycled cotton blend T-shirt featuring a tiger’s gaze, underneath the call to "Protect Tigers" in bold orange lettering so kids can proudly display their support. Another T-shirt features a retro-inspired tiger illustration, and there’s also a Vans x Project CAT pullover with printed logos at the chest and back, as well as a backpack.
Vans and Discovery will also donate $20,000 to help support Project CAT’s mission to conserve acres and ensure a healthy habitat for tigers, as well as other endangered species, well into the future.
Jessica Beatus, General Vice President of Standards and Social Good at Discovery, Inc., said: “Project CAT, which launched in 2016, is committed to conserving the world’s wild tiger population and actively seeks out collaborations with brands like Vans that share our mission, extending opportunities for consumers to show their stripes while helping our planet.
“Discovery’s passionate fans have also always acted as partners in this cause, and we are thrilled to give them a stylish way to support Project CAT through this line of Vans footwear and apparel.”
