Vans links up with rapper Tierra Whack for exclusive collaboration

US skate and streetwear brand Vans has teamed up with rapper Tierra Whack and her longtime stylist Shirley Kurata to launch an exclusive collaboration of both apparel and footwear celebrating creativity and childhood.

The Vans x Tierra Whack collection features a radical take on the brand's heritage 1980s style, with the duo combining key elements of Vans with the Philadelphia rapper's unique approach to music and fashion.

Designed with a mélange of colours, shapes, patterns and phrases, the collection accentuates a playful tone with each style rendered with the "Whack" expression.

Highlights of the footwear collection include the Vans x Tierra Whack Old Skool and Style 36. The former features an oversized and multicoloured "WHACK" text stamped on the quarter, with the sidewall reading "Weird Hype And Creative Kids". The design was first released as part of a promotional run of shoes that the rapper created for her fans during a 2019 House of Vans Philadelphia performance. The latter design plays with graphic contrasts, pairing a soft eco-suede classic white upper with pops of blue on the sidewall and oversized puffy laces looping through the collection’s signature “Weird Hype And Creative Kids” eyelets.

"It was an amazing experience to be able to take what I do with music and apply it to fashion," said Whack.

"Making music is all about collaboration and it was great to work with Shirley and with Vans to give people a collection they can feel free in."

The selection of apparel offerings curated by Whack and Kurata include the Vans x Tierra Whack Twofer, a heavy cotton ringer tee and the Vans Authentic Chino with wide cuffed hems and packable puffer vest.

The Vans x Tierra Whack collection is available on Vans.com and at select Vans retailers from 3 December 2021.
