URBN, the parent company of Urban Outfitters, Free People and Anthropologie, has launched a fashion rental subscription service in the US called Nuuly.

The service allows consumers to sign up for $88 per month for which they will be allowed to rent up to six items.

Brands on offer include the URBN portfolio, as well as more than 100 third party label including AGOLDE, Paige Denim, Alice McCall, and some vintage items. The average value of a subscription box would be $800, claims URBN.

Sizes available for rental range from 00 to 26 with petite options also available.

Customers return items unlaundered each month and Nuuly will take care of the cleaning before re-listing an item for no extra charge. If items are damaged during the rental period the customer is not charged a fee as long as they return the item in their monthly rental box.

Subscriptions can be paused for up to three months at a time or cancelled at any time. In order for pauses and cancellations to be activated, all items must have been returned to Nuuly.

The service currently only ships to the US but a number of UK start-ups have been muscling in on the rental space using various different models, such as Hirestreet, Hurr Collective and The Endless Wardrobe. Read our feature on Generation Rent here.
