Urban Outfitters is closing all of its stores globally until at least 28 March to help stem the spread of Coronavirus.

The US-based business will implement the closures across all of its bricks & mortar brands, which include Anthropologie, Free People, Terrain and retail service Nuuly, with staff paid during the shutdown.

"The global spread of COVID-19 is affecting every one of us," the company said in its statement. "The safety and health of our communities, including our loyal customers and dedicated associates, is always of the utmost importance to us."

Urban Outfitters has around 600 stores globally. In the UK it operates around 30 stores with branches in key destinations in London, such as Oxford Street, Covent Garden and Westfield White City, as well as locations such as Brighton, Manchester, Sheffield, Liverpool and Leeds.

Its e-commerce business and the US rental subscription service Nuuly will continue to operate, while head office staff are being advised to work remotely where possible.
