UNIQLO has announced its intention to open a store in Oxford's Westgate centre this autumn which it says is a significant milestone in its continued UK expansion.

The new store will cover 870 sqm and offer the Japanese group's men's, women's, children's and baby ranges. The majority of its existing 10 UK stores are concentrated in central London with the exception of stores in Wimbledon in South West London, which was recently reopened after a refurbishment, Kingston upon Thames in Surrey (currently closed for refurbishment) and Bluewater in Kent.

UNIQLO UK chief operating officer Satoshi Naito said: "The launch of UNIQLO Oxford represents another major milestone for us in the UK, as we continue to expand our presence in this important focus market for the company worldwide. We are very excited to be able to offer our UNIQLO LifeWear to the people of Oxford and the surrounding area for the first time."

UNIQLO's LifeWear includes its signature AIRism, HEATTECH, Cashmere and Ultra Light Down products, all of which will be on offer in the Oxford store along with Premium Jeans and UT (UNIQLO T-shirts).

As well as refurbishing its Wimbledon and Kingston stores, UNIQLO has significantly invested in its 311 Oxford Street flagship store, which was reopened for SS16. Space at the flagship was almost doubled to 2,240 sqm by adding two new floors taking the total to five. It also added a new conceptual sales area and a roof terrace which affords shoppers views over central London and which also hosts events.

UNIQLO opened its first store in Japan in 1984 and now has 1,800 stores in 18 markets globally. It has gained a reputation for its innovations such as HEATTECH and its collaborations. On 19 September, its new collection with British designer JW Anderson will hit stores its website.
