Ultimo founder Michelle Mone to launch new lingerie brand

Baroness Mone of Mayfair (Michelle Mone) has revealed in a social media post that she is set to launch a new lingerie brand, three years after selling Ultimo, the brand with which she made her name.

Lady Mone posted a picture of herself on Twitter looking through samples and mood boards and wrote: "After a 3 year break and being disappointed with the industry I'm coming back with a bang. My own brand will launch in 2018 and will be bigger than all the others including Ultimo."

Ultimo, famous for its cleavage-enhancing bras, was launched in 1996 and came to global prominence when Julia Roberts wore one of the bras for her role as Erin Brockovich in the film of the same name in 2000. Mone had launched the business having attended a party in an uncomfortable bra.

Having been made redundant from her previous role at Labatts Brewers, in her home town of Glasgow, just six weeks before, she decided to set about launching her own venture. She went on to become one of the UK's best known entrepreneurs and received a number of awards culminating in a Life Peerage to the House of Lords and an OBE.

She sold Ultimo to lingerie giant MAS Holdings three years ago and exited the fashion industry, however she has been involved in a number of charitable and business ventures including establishing her own luxury interior design company.
