UKFT director Paul Alger receives MBE from its president Princess Anne

UKFT International Business Director Paul Alger was at Buckingham Palace yesterday to receive his MBE, which was presented to him by the fashion and textiles association's president HRH The Princess Royal.

Alger was awarded the MBE for services to to exports in the UK fashion industry in recognition of the countless trade missions to important international markets he has overseen and the support he has offered British businesses at the major tradeshows and events around the world.

He said his investiture was made all the more special for receiving the award fro Princess Anne who is a long-standing supporter of the organisation and its president.

“I was thrilled to receive my MBE from Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal, who is hugely supportive of the work that we do at UKFT. I had to admit that I had not expected to receive it from her as I knew she was going to be visiting one of our members, Simon Carter, the same day.

“It is a huge privilege and I have been truly humbled by all the well wishes and messages of support,” he said.

UKFT CEO Adam Mansell was he was "absolutely thrilled that Paul’s huge contribution to the industry has been rewarded".

“He has helped thousands of businesses grow and his knowledge of exporting is encyclopaedic. His impact on fashion businesses over the last three decades has been immeasurable. We are extremely proud to have him as our Director of International Business,” he said.

British designer Phoebe English also expressed her support for Elgar's award. “In an industry so regimented by profit, loss, growth, and the bottom line it has always been a refreshing pleasure to know and work with someone who puts the person and human experience back into and at the forefront of all of this. I love working with and knowing Paul and he deserves this honour a great, great deal. I am utterly thrilled for him.”

Bill Leach, global sales director at John Smedley described Algar as a "beacon of positivity and a fantastic source of industry support", while Ettinger chairman and CEO said Alger had been "instrumental in helping Ettinger export and we now export to over 35 countries worldwide".

Alger was named as an MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List, announced last June.
