Tricker’s opens in Tokyo in 190th anniversary year

World renowned Northampton footwear brand Tricker’s, which celebrates its 190th anniversary this year, has just opened a shop in Tokyo – the first Tricker’s store outside of the UK.

The brand’s long-standing store at 67 Jermyn Street in London has been replicated as much as was possible for the new store in the Aoyama district of Japan.

Commenting on the new opening, Tricker’s head of global sales, David Jeffery, said: “Tricker’s has been exporting to Japan for over 30 years now and has a great following, so it only seemed fitting to open a store there in our 190th Anniversary Year. The Japanese consumer recognises that Northamptonshire Shoemakers are some of the best in the world, and they associate us with making luxury Goodyear Welted Shoes.”

Regarding the shop-fit, Jeffery added: "The new store is very much like Tricker's in Jermyn Street. Whenever we have Japanese customers in our London boutique, they always want to take photos and are fascinated with the history of the shop. It made sense to do something similar, so we got the signs made by a specialist in the UK and sourced furniture and lighting from antique shops also in the UK. The rest of the store was built in Japan taking references directly from Jermyn Street or old archive images that we have."
