Traid launches latest ‘Closet Clear-Out’ campaign backed by host of celebrities

Second-hand clothing charity Traid, which operates 12 stores across London, has launched its latest ‘Closet Clear-Out’ campaign, encouraging people to ‘Donate Better’, set to run throughout April.

To bring it to life, celebrity names including Martin Freeman, Sharon Horgan, Patrick Grant and Michelle Dockery have donated items from their own wardrobes.

The celebrity donations sit alongside thousands of pieces from the public, helping to fund global projects supporting garment workers and communities, while also tackling the growing impact of fast fashion and textile waste.

Maria Chenoweth, Chief Executive of Traid, which has worked exclusively with the fashion sector for over 25 years, said: “We work to reuse, resell and re-purpose. But today’s fashion system produces clothing that often isn’t built to last. The most powerful thing you can do is donate pieces someone else can wear and love for years to come.”

Now in its third year, the Closet Clear-Out campaign, which this time includes a video, is arming supporters with the know-how to donate better by celebrating conscious wardrobes, with a firm focus on ‘better clothes = bigger impact’.

How Londoners can get involved:

  • Book a free home collection throughout April.
  • Donate in-store across London (branches in Dalston, Camden, Peckham, Brixton, Clapham, Walthamstow, Kilburn, Hammersmith, Shepherd’s Bush, Greenwich, Tooting and Wood Green).
  • Enter a prize draw to win up to £100 in Traid shopping vouchers.
  • Shop curated “Shop the Drop” collections launching this summer.
