Trade show preview: Pitti Uomo 95 highlights

The line-up for Pitti Uomo no.95 has now been revealed. Here’s some of the highlights instore for buyers attending the Fortezza da Basso in Florence on 8-11 January 2019.

Barbour will celebrate its 125th anniversary at Pitti with a capsule collection in collaboration with Engineered Garments founder and designer Daiki Suzuki. A large area in the WP Lavori show space will be dedicated to the anniversary and the launch of this collection, featuring iconic Barbour pieces revisited and reimagined by Suzuki. There will also be an exhibition of archive Barbour pieces to run alongside this much anticipated new line.

Making a return to Pitti for the first time in a while, Ben Sherman is set to be another brand amongst the British contingent. As well as revealing its new AW19 offer, there will also be a special exhibition and commemorative presentation celebrating over five decades of shirt-making.

Another must-see will be the new offer from Woolrich, showing in the Sala Ottagonale area, following the recent announcement of the majority buy-out by Luxembourg investment firm, L-GAM. Creative director, Andrea Cané, formerly leading the direction when it was majority owned by WP Lavori, is still firmly at the helm and at the forefront of the brand’s new international expansion project. New Woolrich branding is to be revealed.

Allegri will showcase its new collaboration with Cottweiler, the British brand designed by Ben Cottrell and Matthew Dainty. Heritage and modern design meet functionality is the design focus, with a capsule collection of 10 raincoats. Traditional Allegri styling will meet head-on with a futuristic vision of sportswear tailoring from the British duo. It should be an interesting one.

Ecoalf, the pioneering sustainable fashion brand, returns with a launch of a 100% made in Italy capsule collection created entirely using sustainable and recycled materials, joining forces with stylist Ana Gimeno and eco-designer Tiziano Guardini.

Italian designer Aldo Maria Camillo, who has worked with likes of Ermenegildo Zegna, Valentino, Cerruti and Berluti, will present a debut of the brand that bears his name. Lifestyle brand John Varvatos Enterprises will be presenting an installation to showcase its newest collections; John Varvatos, John Varvatos Star USA and Bootleg by John Varvatos. And January also sees a return to Pitti for premium German designer label JOOP!, promising a modern lifestyle collection.

On top of all that, the show will feature a return of 90’s favourite, Levi’s Engineered Jeans, French brand dedicated to beach couture, Vilebrequin, is launching a new project collection called Vilebrequin Denim, and Best Company is to reinterpret its archival embroidery on an easy-chic sweatshirt collection, as well as a high-tech outerwear capsule, created by Japanese designer, Ono.

Other highlights include Italian sportswear brand Diadora celebrating its 70th anniversary with an exhibition called ‘It Plays Something Else’ exhibition on Tuesday, January 8. And a collaboration with the Revolver show in Copenhagen will see a dedicated space to brands from Denmark, Sweden and Norway in the Arena Strozzi area, featuring the likes of Soulland, Norse Projects, Uniforms for the Dedicated, Tonsure and Whyred.

The ‘Japanese White Leather Project’ in the Touch! show space, will see four Japanese designers specialised in the craftsmanship of white leather - a millennial technique, practiced only in the area of Himeji from the purity of local water.

Eleanor McDonald, a young London designer who recently won a ‘ITS Award’ and the Italian National Chamber Fashion Award, will present a special capsule collection in the Unconventional area, thanks to the support of the Pitti Immagine Tutorship division.

The ‘guest nation’ showcasing its up-and-coming labels and designers this time is Portugal, and there will also be a spotlight on some of the most interesting brands now coming out of South Korea.

The menswear ‘guest designer’, rounding up events with a catwalk show, will be Belgian designer, Glenn Martins, showing his latest Y/PROJECT collection at a location close to the show as yet to be disclosed.
