Discount fashion, beauty and homeware chain TK Maxx is to open a 30,557 sq ft store spanning three floors at the Atria Watford shopping centre this summer.

The new store is in the unit vacated by NEXT in 2021, when the high street giant relocated to open its first 94,000 sq ft department store – bringing together its fashion, home and beauty offer for the first time - in the centre.

TK Maxx already has a store at Century Retail Park in Watford, which opened in June 2021, the same month that the retailer’s parent company, TJX Europe, unveiled its new £93m headquarters for around 1,500 employees opposite Watford Junction on Clarendon Road. Additionally, the retailer has another store a mile out of town in nearby Knutsford.

TK Maxx has signed a 10-year lease on the new Atria Watford store, located near the brand’s headquarters, and it will offer customers its usual mix of much-loved brands and designer labels at affordable prices, covering clothing, accessories, beauty and homeware.

Steve Gray, Head of European Retail Asset Management at Global Mutual Properties (which acts on behalf of property company SGS, owners of Atria Watford), said: “Following a successful festive period – with footfall back above 2019 levels for December -  we’re thrilled to start 2023 on a positive note with this signing.

“TK Maxx is a much-loved brand, with a diverse product offer and broad appeal. We know it will act as a real draw for shoppers, driving footfall and spend, and we look forward to when it opens its doors in summer 2023.”

Atria Watford is a leading retail and leisure destination in Hertfordshire covering 1.4 million sq ft. The centre is home to hundreds of brands of all shapes and sizes – from small independents through to household names – with some other well-known tenants including Zara, M&S and Primark.
