Premium lifestyle and fashion retailer The White Company has posted an increase in both sales and profits for the year ending 31 March 2018, while it continues to invest in infrastructure, IT and international expansion.

During the period underlying UK operating profit was up 3% at £18.1m on sales up 4% at £206.5m. Its headline operating profit was down by 32% at £11.8m, but this was a result of the costs of its expansion into the US and Ireland as well as investment in its website and infrastructure.

Chief executive Mary Homer, who joined the company from Topshop in March of 2017, said: “Our year of consolidation investing in infrastructure and IT, moving to new headquarters and our international expansion has ensured we are positioned for future growth. The performance of this current year so far, showing growth in both revenue and profit, is extremely encouraging in the current retail climate.

The White Company, which was founded by Chrissy Rucker in 1994, closed the financial year with 47 UK stores, seven UK concessions and three international stores, including its debut US store in New York. Moving ahead it is planning to open a second store in Dublin and has struck up a relationship with US department store chain Nordstrom.
