The Interview: Inside 247 by Represent’s strategy to connect community, performance and footwear innovation
247 by Represent, the performance-focused offer from British streetwear brand Represent - which is mostly now referred to simply as ‘247’ after firmly establishing itself in the fitness sphere - is hosting its first official running race, ‘247 Run: Heaton’, on 1 February in Manchester’s Heaton Park, which will see up to 1,000 runners take part. Then, on 4 February, comes the official launch of 247’s fourth generation trainer, the ARC-4, in what is seen as an important growth category for the brand going forward. Here’s what Head of 247 by Represent, Matt Shotton, has to say about it all...
Is '247 Run: Heaton' the first of its kind for the brand?
Yes, it’s our first dedicated running event. After the success of ‘247 Mission: Rivington’ - our first-ever endurance competition - in July last year, this felt like the right next step to continue building experiences around performance to connect with our community. Running is a core pillar of 247. This event is about bringing the community together, celebrating performance, and marking the launch of the ARC-4 trainer in a meaningful way.

Who will be present from the brand?
Members of the Represent and 247 teams will be there, alongside TEAM 247 athletes including Russ Cook - aka the Hardest Geezer who ran the length of Africa back in 2024 - and endurance runner Hercules Nicolaou. We tested the run as a team back in December, all wearing the ARC-4, and regularly do races and runs as a company alongside our daily 247 gym classes for employees. This creates a unique camaraderie amongst our team and is an invaluable part of forming our team culture.
Is it actually a race?
I’d say it’s competitive, but inclusive at the same time. There will be 5k and 10k distances, so people can challenge themselves at their own level. To add interest and a competitive edge, there will be a £500 gift card for both the winner of the men's and winner of the women’s 10k run, as well as a £250 gift card for both the winner of the men's and the winner of the women’s 5k run.
What benefits does putting on such an event give to the brand?
It ultimately brings the brand to life. Events like this allow people to experience what 247 stands for: performance, progression and community. It also provides people with the opportunity to connect with like-minded people who want to push themselves physically and mentally, something we actively encourage with 247, specifically via our TEAM 247 athletes and the inspiring things they do. For those taking part, they get to be part of something bigger than a run. It’s about connection, motivation and sharing the same mindset.
Does it build consumer loyalty outside of product releases?
Definitely. When people feel included and valued beyond transactions, it builds genuine loyalty. Events like this strengthen that relationship and are so meaningful to us as a brand. It doubles down on our authenticity.
Is this the first run of many planned?
Yes indeed. While 247 hosts runs and community activations around the world, this is our first-ever dedicated running race. It’s something we’re excited to build on, and we’ll be looking to deliver more events like this in the near future as part of how we continue to engage and support the 247 community.

Will the new ARC-4 shoe be a focus of the event and what’s so special about it?
The event celebrates the ARC-4 ahead of its official launch on 4 February. The ARC-4 is special because it’s designed for performance for both running and hybrid training and racing. With the rise of fitness competitions such as HYROX, people are looking for footwear that excels both their running and functional exercise performance - something that a lot of traditional running shoes don’t do due to the instability of regular carbon-plated shoes.
The ARC-4 is a hybrid performance shoe that delivers the propulsion and efficiency you want for running, while still offering the stability and control needed for functional exercises. Its carbon progression plate, combined with our supercritical foam, gives it speed, responsiveness and structure in a way that works across disciplines.
How else does it differ from other running shoes?
The ARC 4s plate is made from carbon and PEBAX. Carbon is lightweight and stiff and PEBAX has a high energy return and elasticity - these materials blended together ensure a plate which has a high energy return during the drive-off/push-off/take-off phase.
Traditional running shoes are designed almost exclusively for forward motion. The ARC-4’s carbon plate is engineered differently. Yes, it supports propulsion when running, but also provides stability under load and lateral movement. This makes it far more versatile for athletes who don’t just run, but train across multiple disciplines.
Does it give the wearer the edge?
Yes, in efficiency and consistency. The energy return from the carbon plate and foam combination helps runners maintain pace with less fatigue, while the stability means you can transition between movements confidently.
What makes the ARC-4 different from the ARC-1, ARC-2 and ARC-3?
The ARC-4 is our most advanced footwear product to date. The ARC-1 and ARC-2 established our foundations in running and training, while the ARC-3 was catered towards recovery. The ARC-4 takes a big step forward towards performance across run and hybrid training and racing.
Is footwear a category you are now looking to grow?
We’re constantly looking at how we evolve and develop the 247 range. The ARC-4 represents a significant step forward for us in footwear and reflects how far the category has come in a relatively short space of time. Footwear is a long-term focus for 247, and while ARC-4 is a big milestone, it’s very much part of a wider journey that we’ll continue to build on and expand in the future.
What other plans are there to grow 247?
We’re focused on continuing to develop the 247 performance product offering, pushing into higher level products. Innovation across performance apparel and footwear remains a key priority, and while we’re not standing still, everything we do is about progressing the range in the right way.
Alongside products, we’re also looking at how we collaborate and create meaningful experiences with partnerships, community-led moments and more events like 247 Run: Heaton, all playing a role in how we continue to connect with and support the 247 community.
