The Fold unveils collection using Liberty prints in tribute to retailer's 150th anniversary
British womenswear brand The Fold has launched a five-piece limited-edition collection using Liberty fabrics in celebration of the London retailer’s 150th anniversary.
The Fold, founded by Polly McMaster in 2012 out of a disappointment at the lack of choice in women’s workwear, has put its twist to Liberty prints from its scarf archive dating back to the 1970s, recolouring them for a unique and exclusive update.
The intricate designs have been printed on luxurious silk from Italy, creating five pieces that are "sure to make a statement this summer", including two pairs of trousers, a blouse, a silk top and a dress.
Katya Maschenko, Design Director at The Fold, said: "It was a dream to explore the Liberty fabric archive in celebration of 150 years of Liberty. The unique prints we selected pair perfectly with our elegant silhouettes for a truly special collection. Printed in Italy on luxurious silk, these limited-edition styles are made to be treasured.
"With heartfelt tributes to the details of the iconic store running throughout its print, ‘Staging Liberty’ (a name of an archive print) instantly caught our eye. Hand painted in London and recoloured by our print designer, the final pieces are a true testament to the strength of our collaboration.
"A true gem from the archive, ‘Bohemian Day’, dates back to the 1970s, featuring a medley of scarf prints from playful paisleys to bold geometrics. The epitome of retro extravagance, it’s exciting, bold and perfectly suited to our timeless silhouettes."
The collection includes the blue multicolour, high waist ‘Arezzo Silk Trousers’ in the recoloured ‘Staging Liberty’ print, priced at £375, and the pink multicolour ‘Cascia Silk Top’ – reimagined from Liberty’s 1970s ‘Bohemian Day’ print - featuring a crossover halter neck design, priced at £295.
There’s also the ‘Mariano Silk Dress’, again playing with the ‘Staging Liberty’ print, which has The Fold’s signature seam detailing ensuring a flattering shape, before opening into pleats at the waist to create "stunning movement in the skirt". That one is retailing at £575. All five pieces are available to purchase online and in The Fold stores from today.
Liberty was founded by Arthur Lasenby Liberty in 1875, known for the distinctive Tudor-style architecture of its London building and its floral and paisley prints.
