The Fashion Awards 2019 announces nominations
British designers Daniel Lee at Bottega Veneta and Jonathan Anderson of JW Anderson and Loewe, along with Gucci’s Alessandro Michele, dominate the nominations for The Fashion Awards to be held in London this December.
Staged by the British Fashion Council with the support of Swarovski, the event recognises fashion talent from around the globe with two awards dedicated to British designers.
Lee, a former ready to wear designer at Celine, was appointed as creative director at Kering-owned Bottega Veneta in June of 2018 and his first collections have been met with critical and commercial acclaim; his quilted mules and Pouch clutch bag have been two of the most desirable items for AW19.
Central Saint Martins graduate Lee has been personally nominated in three categories with Bottega Veneta also nominated for Brand of the Year. Jonathan Anderson, who heads up his own label as well as Loewe, also gets three personal nods and one nod for Loewe, while Michele gets two nominations with Gucci also nominated for Brand and Business Leader of the Year.

It has already been revealed that legendary designer Giorgio Armani would receive the Outstanding Achievement Award while British supermodel and activist Naomi Campbell would receive the Fashion Icon Award. Further special recognition awards are due to be announced prior to the event, which is staged on 2 December at the Royal Albert Hall.
A global voting panel of 2,500 key members of the fashion industry put forward their preferences for each award and nominations were made in ten categories with the five brands/individuals receiving the most nominations shortlisted in each, across two rounds of voting.
The Fashion Awards acts as a fundraiser to the British Fashion Council’s talent initiatives and programmes which promote excellence in design by financially supporting students with the ability and potential to make an exceptional contribution to the fashion industry. In 2018, the BFC raised over £2.3million for its charities and business support initiatives and allocated £1.1 million directly to scholars and designer businesses.
