The Cambridge Satchel Company opens doors of "homecoming store"

The Cambridge Satchel Company has opened the doors of its latest store on Neal Street, Seven Dials, as the brand celebrates its 10th anniversary.

It marks something of a homecoming for the British bag-maker, which opened its first ever store on Shorts Gardens in Seven Dials in 2013.

The store's interior was designed by an in-house team at the business, which was founded by entrepreneur Julie Deane and her mother Freda with just £600 in capital back in 2008.

Deane, who received an OBE for her services to entrepreneurship in 2014, said of the move: “This milestone birthday of 10 years was something special to us - it was a chance to see how far we’ve grown from our first store on Shorts Gardens in Seven Dials.

"We’ve had the opportunity to trial other ventures in London, which has shown the virtue of our original location. The cobbled streets, Victorian lamps and unique character in Seven Dials really speak the language of our brand and we are so pleased to come home.”

The Cambridge Satchel Company has further stores in Cambridge, Brighton, Edinburgh, Bicester Village and a factory shop in Leicester. It also has wholesale stockists around the globe.

It is the latest in a line-up of innovative brands to open in Seven Dials; other recent arrivals include direct-to-consumer luggage brand Away and disruptive hosiery and shapewear brand Heist.

Commenting on the return of the company to the area, Addy Williams, Retail Portfolio Manager at landlord Shaftesbury said: “To welcome The Cambridge Satchel Company back to Seven Dials, after serving as an incubator for the company in its establishment ten years ago, really captures the strong sense of community we offer to brands. This opening reflects our strategy of building a rich mix of boutiques and a bespoke experience for visitors, in the heart of the bustling West End.”
