The Body Shop backs store re-openings with sustainable innovations

Newly re-opened The Body Shop locations across England and Wales are championing sustainable shopping with beauty product refill stations and an environmentally-centred relaunch of the brand’s iconic Body Butter range.

Initially launched in six stores this week, with a goal of 155 across the UK by the end of 2021, the new refill scheme allows shoppers to fill up The Body Shop branded aluminium bottles with a wide range of haircare products, shower gels and handwashes.

The UK rollout is part of a global scheme which will see the majority of The Body Shop stores worldwide fitted with refill stations over the next five years – a move which it says could help to save more than 25 tonnes of plastic from landfill each year.

Also launched in time for the easing of lockdown restrictions in England and Wales was a refresh of the brand’s 13-strong Body Butters range, which now includes a new Avocado Body Butter.

Created in 1992 in the kitchen of The Body Shop founder Dame Anita Roddick, the re-launch of Body Butters signalled “a complete rejuvenation of The Body Shop brand,” it said.

The new Body Butters are now registered by The Vegan Society and made with at least 95% ingredients of natural origin - including handcrafted Community Fair Trade shea butter from Ghana.

The Body Butters also feature ultra-sustainable packaging using aluminium lids and 100% recycled plastic, including Community Fair Trade recycled plastic collected off the streets of Bengaluru, India.
