Ted Baker's Founder Ray Kelvin launches fashion and lifestyle collection

Ted Baker's Founder Ray Kelvin, who was ousted from the brand in 2019, has made his design comeback with the launch of Sealskinz's fashion and lifestyle range 'Vitae'.

Innovative British performance-wear brand Sealskinz has expanded its current offering with the launch of Vitae, a dedicated fashion and lifestyle collection, which will run alongside its offering of performance accessories.

The line is the brainchild of the former CEO and Founder of Ted Baker, Ray Kelvin, who acquired Sealskinz in November 2022. Since then, Kelvin has refreshed the brand, adding apparel to its offering. He even opened a pop-up on Marylebone Lane in November 2023 to showcase the new line.

Taking inspiration from Kelvin's love of the outdoors, combined with his passion for design, Vitae is built to perform.

The performance-meets-style collection includes classically cut chinos, shorts, shirts and swimwear. Hero products include Chore Jackets and unstructured Blazers made from stretch fabrics and have water-repellent finishes.

This is Kelvin's first foray back into fashion since stepping down from Ted Baker in 2019 following allegations – always denied – of harassment of staff. Defenders say he was a misunderstood eccentric, detractors say that he was out of touch and inappropriate. Whatever he was, Ted Baker was driven by his vision, uncompromising standards and limitless energy. He was the glue that held Ted Baker together and, when he went, it came unstuck.

Authentic Brands Group acquired Ted Baker in 2022 after several years of upheaval. In March 2024, after pulling the plug on a retail deal with AARC, administrators were appointed to the UK arm of Ted Baker and it continues to seek a new retail partner.
